Evergreen Hospice is a charitable organization dedicated to helping people with life threatening illnesses, their families and their loved ones cope through difficult times.
A person with a life-threatening illness may face not only pain, anger, and fear, but often the loss of a job, physical mobility, the pleasure of family activities and socialization with friends.
In an atmosphere of love and caring concern, we help them to maintain dignity and personal choice. Our emphasis is on the quality of life.
Supportive Services
We provide a wide variety of services to help the individual, family members and caregivers:
In Home
Our volunteers can offer help with practical needs - whether it's reading aloud, child care, transportation or light bedside care. Trained volunteers and professional staff provide social, emotional and spiritual support. Friends and family receive help and guidance in caring for their loved ones and themselves.
Day Program
Our Kathleen Mullin Day Program offers respite for caregivers and provides life-affirming activities for the individual. Activities may include massage, meditation, outings, crafts and creative writing.
For Seniors
Volunteers are specially trained to understand the concerns of seniors who are living with a life-threatening illness. Residents of local nursing homes or seniors' residences and their families can receive emotional, social and spiritual care on an individualized basis.
Caregiver Support Group - This special group is offered twice each month (2nd Sunday and 4th Thursday) for those who are the caregiver for a loved one or friend who is experiencing the impact of a life-threatening illness. This informal group is open to families served by Evergreen Hospice. In a safe environment, caregivers can explore their concerns and feelings; receive practical information and learn about available resources; develop coping and stress management skills; and laugh. The group is facilitated by hospice staff and trained volunteers.
Bereavement Care
The journey through grief may present peaks and valleys. Compassionate counselling is offered to family and friends following the death of a loved one. Our services are designed to provide support, guidance and education to help in adjusting to the loss and learning new skills for living.
Support groups include Stormy Nights...Sunny Days , a grief support group for children; Digital Memories, a grief support group for teens in which they create a DVD memory collage of the person who died; Bridges of Hope, a monthly drop-in program and Circle of Hope, an eight week grief support group for adults. We provide individual and family bereavement counselling and a self-directed correspondence program. Each year we host A Not So Jolly Holiday seminar and an annual memorial service.
