What is Evergreen Hospice?
Evergreen Hospice is a non-profit agency providing supportive care to people of all ages in Markham and Whitchurch-Stouffville who are dealing with a life-threatening illness, death and bereavement care for family and friends.
How did we get started?
In medieval times, a hospice was a place of shelter for travelers on a difficult journey. No journey is more difficult than the path followed by those facing a life-threatening illness.
In 1989, with the modern hospice movement well underway, Hospice Markham Stouffville was established by a group of dedicated volunteers. The name was changed to Evergreen Hospice in 1998. The programs have grown over the years to include a number of diverse programs.
Our Commitment
From the beginning, Evergreen Hospice has been committed to sharing life's most difficult journey and offering supportive care to the individual and family. We do this by offering a team of professional staff and specifically trained volunteers dedicated to:
- providing quality care in the home;
- easing pain and other symptoms;
- counselling individuals and their families;
- ensuring continuity of care through collaboration with other service providers; and
- supporting bereaved family and friends.
