How long is the walk?
The walk will be a choice of either 2.5 km, or 5.0 km. It will be a combination of a short city street walk, and then enter into a lovely conservation area near the school, where we can take advantage of the beautiful fall colours.
Will you have food?
Yes, we will have food waiting for the walkers return. We will have water available before and during the walk, and then a light lunch available after the walk, to allow people to mingle and learn what prizes they may have won.
What is this registration fee?
As this is a fundraising event, we need to make sure that our costs are covered. So, we have implemented a registration fee. The fee is $35.00 however if you register before October 1st you only have to pay $25.00. If you raise $50.00 or more in sponsors, this fee is waived, in recognition of your fundraising efforts.
Will I get a T-Shirt?
Walkers will get a T-shirt while quantities last. We are strongly encouraging pre-registration this year - If you pre-register, you will be assured of a T-shirt when you arrive. If you decide to register on the day of the hike, we cannot guarantee that your size will be available, though we will do our utmost best!
What if someone wants to sponsor me with a credit card?
We hope to have an online payment option soon! In the meantime, please have them contact the Evergreen Hospice office at 905.472.5014.
How do the draw prizes work?
Besides the Prize Categories for raising the most money, we will again have draw prizes that each walker is eligible to win! The more money you raise, the greater your chances of winning the prize you want.
- Each person who raises $50 in sponsors will get one draw ticket.
- Plus, for every additional $50 you raise, you get an extra ticket.
So, if for example you raise $200, you will get 4 draw tickets.
There will be a variety of draw prizes, attractive to different age groups and interests, and you can choose for which prize, or prizes, you want to deposit your tickets.
Draws will be made while the walk is going on, you will be able to see upon your return if you won, and take your prize home with you immediately!
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome, as long as they are on a leash. (We won't be providing food for your pets though!)
Is there parking available?
Yes, there is plenty of free parking at the school.
What if it rains that day?
We will be walking that day regardless of the weather, so check the forecast, and come prepared with a good raincoat or an umbrella! Pre- and post walk events will have contingencies for rain to keep your time out in the elements to a minimum.
Remember the registration fee is waived if you raise at least $50.00 in pledges!
Thanks for your support!
Highlights of the 2007 HIKE!
On Sunday October 14th hospice families, volunteers and supporters enjoyed the fall colours during the annual Hike for Hospice! This year's 5K / 2.5 K walk took place in the Stouffville Conservation Area with our headquarters at nearby St. Brigid Catholic Elementary School.
"Wavy Dave" Haines provided upbeat music and Club Markham fitness instructor Lori Henderson made sure that our hikers were warmed up before Stouffville Mayor Wayne Emmerson officially sent them on their way. It was a real family affair with hikers of all ages participating including our favourite pets!
Hikers enjoyed a delicious lunch and lots of hot coffee and tea generously provided by:
- Amica at Swan Lake
- Food Basic - Markham
- Mario No Frills - Markham
- Starbucks - Unionville
Marita Concil and her team from Stouffville Therapeutic Centre and everyone had a chance to win Draw Prizes generously donated by a number of local businesses.
We thrilled to note that we reached a higher level of success raising $12,128 at this year's Hike for Hospice! New this year was the option to sponsor teams and hikers online - this helped us communicate with more people who were happy to donate.
Our corporate sponsors were generous and key contributors to our success! Many thanks to this year's Hike Sponsors:
Comfort Sponsors:
Clintar Groundskeeping Services
FAB Consulting
Care Sponsor:
Novopharm Limited
In-Kind Sponsor:
